Houston Christian Takes Home Six Tommy Tune Awards
Houston Christian High School’s Theatreworks earns six Tommy Tune Awards, including Best Musical, for their production of Disney’s Newsies! HC students and faculty entered with shared nominations in 14 categories - a first for the school's Theatre Department. Houston Baptist University hosted sold-out performances of Newsies by HC Theatreworks in February.
“I am so very proud of all of our students and I know the HC community is as well,” said Theatre Director Bobby Linhart.
The Tommy Tunes Awards Ceremony was streamed live on May 27, 2022, announcing the winners in all categories between musical performances from nominated cast and crews throughout the Greater Houston Area. Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) presents its annual awards program to recognize and reward excellence in high school musical theater production.
Mason Nuno ’23 won Best Featured Performer for his role of Race in Newsies. Dance Director Melissa Tyler and Theatre Director Bobby Linhart, as well as students Anoushka Patel ’23, Renee Anderson ’22 won Best Choreography. Bobby Linhart was also awarded Best Director. Faculty members Brian Minson, Brian Brown and Ken Sink won Best Music Direction. Grant Richter ‘22 was awarded the runner-up Jimmy Award, an extremely high honor. HC Theatre Department was praised for their incredible production by winning Best Musical.
“I’m so proud of all these students,” said Principal Dr. Darren Price. “They have worked so hard and really put on an amazing show. It is great to see their excellence recognized in such an amazing way! Congratulations to Mr. Linhart, all the faculty and staff, and students involved with the show!”
