Dance

balance of athleticism and grace

Houston Christian High School’s Mustang Dance Program is dedicated to providing a place for excellent dance training and a place where dancers of all levels can explore their creative voice through dance and find inspiration in the true Creator of movement.

Our Mustang Dance Program offers two distinct dance teams, DOXA Dance Company and Silver Spurs Drill Team, as well as elective dance courses where students can grow in strength, flexibility, technique, showmanship, and confidence. Our dance curriculum uses a multi-discipline and cumulative approach, emphasizing dance as an art form.

Through discipline, hard work, and perseverance, we encourage our dancers to seek excellence while maintaining a Christ-centered approach to their training. We prioritize the health and well-being of our dancers, training them to view dance through a scientific lens of kinesiology and injury prevention.

Here at Houston Christian, every dancer will find a place to be challenged and inspired as they experience Psalm 149:3: “Let them praise His name with dancing..”!

About Our Program

List of 3 items.

  • Dance Classes

Multiple classes provide learning opportunities for beginner to advanced level dancers.  Dance classes explore ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, tap, and hip-hop techniques. Throughout the beginner to advanced level courses, dancers will study dance history, explore cultural dances, learn proper dance critique, gain skills in pedagogy, and grow in the craft of choreography. Healthy and positive body awareness is emphasized at every level through the use of dance anatomy and kinesiology in concert with conditioning and injury prevention. Our goal is to not only train dancers but to build an appreciation for the artform of dance. All dance students perform in our annual Spring Dance Concert.
  • DOXA Dance Company

DOXA Dance Company is a pre-professional, performance-based contemporary dance company that emphasizes excellence in dance through a fine arts lens. DOXA members are given opportunities to refine their technique and build on their performance skills through various opportunities throughout the school year, such as fine arts concerts, community gatherings, and our annual Spring Dance Concert. The DOXA program specializes in developing the student’s choreographic voice, with opportunities for creating both group and solo works by students throughout the year. DOXA dancers are trained in dance pedagogy, allowing them to perform dance leadership roles across campus programs, such as student choreographers and dance captains for the HC Theatrework’s musicals and drill team dance officers. Dancers have the opportunity to work with professional guest artists and choreographers from the greater Houston area, as well as attend injury prevention workshops with Houston Methodist. DOXA rehearsals are held during the school day, allowing dancers to be involved in other after-school activities and home studio programs. The DOXA Dance Company is a place for elite dancers to continue their training and expand their skills as dance leaders.

The Silver Spurs are a team of intermediate—to advanced-level dancers specializing in precision jazz.
