Partnership Overview

Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is proud to be the official health care provider of Houston Christian High School. This partnership enables Houston Methodist to provide the onsite Sports Medicine Team including Athletic Trainers and a Team Physician for the student athletes of HCHS. This team strives to deliver the Houston Methodist Experience on the grounds of HCHS to ensure student athletes receive excellent sports medicine care and to promote safety while performing at the highest level.

Evelyn Cantu, LAT

Evelyn Cantu is a Cross Fit and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athlete born and raised in the Greater Houston area. A graduate from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, Evelyn began her career as a licensed athletic trainer gaining experience at Houston ISD. She joined Houston Methodist in 2017 where she has served in various school and sport settings including the Albion Hurricanes Football Club and most recently with Cy-Fair ISD. Along with her professional expertise, Evelyn brings her personability and enthusiasm to the Houston Christian Sports Medicine Program. Evelyn lives in the Houston area with her husband David and their two daughters, Ava and Avi, where they fulfill their mutual passions for the fitness industry serving the Jersey Village community with their own gym.
Kendall Hirsch, LAT, ATC

Kendall Hirsch attended Texas State University where she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Following graduation as a licensed and certified Athletic Trainer, Kendall gained experience through the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Athletic Training Residency, of which she was ultimately hired on as part of their full-time staff. Now a member of Houston Methodist West Hospital, she provides high quality sports medicine services to the various athletes of Houston Christian High School. When not caring for student-athletes, Kendall enjoys country dancing, spending time with her husband, daughter, and fur baby, Chevy, as well as collecting and cultivating an excessive number of plants.

Steven DelBello, MD

Dr. Steven DelBello is a board-certified and fellowship trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon. He earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical School in Houston, Texas. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at The University of Tennessee - Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee and his orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at The Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Jackson, Mississippi.
 
Dr. DelBello's areas of interest include knee and shoulder arthroscopic surgery as well as fracture management, general orthopedics and sports medicine.

  • Injury Prevention

    Injury prevention includes: stretching, mobility exercises, soft tissue mobilization, taping and bracing, sport-specific warm-up techniques, patient education, environmental hazard monitoring (heat, lightning, facility conditions)
  • Injury Examination and Diagnosis

    Injury examination and diagnosis includes: initial injury evaluations using patient history, mechanism of injury, range of motion assessments, and orthopedic special tests to determine differential diagnosis.
  • Treatment and Rehabilitation

    Treatment and Rehabilitation includes: therapeutic exercise, myofascial decompression (therapeutic massage, cupping, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization), muscle electrical stimulation, therapeutic ultrasound, compression recovery system, Dry Needling (parent approval required) cryotherapy, hydrotherapy, injury-specific training, and more!
  • Emergency Care

    Emergency Care includes: following pre-established Emergency Action Plans, the AT is trained and equipped to treat head trauma, cardiac events, seizures, asthma attack, wounds, spinal and nerve injuries, diabetic emergency, and environmental illness.
  • Houston Methodist Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Appointments

    Through our partnership between Houston Christian High School and Houston Methodist, our Athletic Trainers have direct scheduling access with orthopedic and sports medicine specialists. HCHS student athletes are given priority appointment scheduling through this service that ensures excellent continuity of care.
